About

The mid-sections (even called the stomach), in vertebrates such as mammals, makes up the component of the body between the thorax (chest) and also pelvis. The area enclosed by the mid-sections is described the stomach cavity. In arthropods it is the most distal segment of the body which lies behind the thorax or cephalothorax.

Anatomically, the abdomen stretches from the thorax at the thoracic diaphragm to the pelvis at the pelvic brim. The pelvic brim stretches from the lumbosacral viewpoint (the intervertebral disk in between L5 and S1) to the pubic symphysis and is the edge of the pelvic inlet. The room above this inlet and under the thoracic diaphragm is described the abdominal cavity. The limit of the stomach cavity is the stomach wall structure in the front and also the peritoneal area at the rear.
